In my opinion with concern, the recent royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on the 29th of April as a global event aroused many topics in comparison with Prince William’s parents’ Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding around three decades back as it uses the tax payers’ money of the people in Great Britain to host these royal weddings. Apart from the monetary issues, the royal blood hierarchy might be important as its part of one’s tradition.
Of course there are similarities between the both modern-day fairy tales. It was the backgrounds of the two princesses, Kate and Diana as both were ‘commoners’. However, differences between the princesses i spotted in the recent wedding pulled them apart in my point of view.

The factors being:
1. The church of choice, where life-long marriage vows will be vowed.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana Spencer married at St. Paul's Cathedral, where as Prince William and Catherine Middleton married at the smaller Westminster Abbey.

2. The modes of transportation of the royal wedding.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana arrived the cathedral in the traditional horse-drawn glass coach and left the church in an open carriage.
Prince William and Catherine Middleton, on the other hand, broke the centuries of tradition by traveling to Westminster Abbey in a limousine.

3. The engagement.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana got engaged when he was 32 and she just turned 19 with an age gap of 13years, where as Prince William and his bride were of the same age or rather Princess Catherine is 6 months older than him.
Prince William's parents had only 13 meetings before their awkward engagement, yet Prince William and Kate have already dated for 8 years since high school.

To end this off, I think that people changes with time, the younger generations are starting to develop their own mind sets pushing aside traditions that people used to follow. As seen from the recent wedding, Princess Kate does not have to go through tests to check and prove that she is a virgin unlike Lady Diana Spencer a few decades back. Apart from that, the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana back then sounded like they have rushed into it and that Prince Charles was not brave enough to speak up for his love and affection towards the last woman he married, Camilla since he already admitted that he was all along in love with her even when he got engaged with Lady Diana Spencer. With reference to the 8 years the newly wed have dated. Prince William’s wedding was very much of the modern era of the younger generation that would take everything slowly and have no interest hurrying into the altar.
